Summary:
ClearCase is the IBM Rational tool for automating source code configuration management and configuration management of other software and documentation assets. This course is for those who need to configure the ClearCase user environment or use ClearCase to support a branch-merge strategy for a software development project. The course covers the use of labels in ClearCase to support the marking of milestone or special versions of elements, how to create, use and merge branches in ClearCase and how to customize views by editing the config specs of a view. The course provides students with an understanding of the proper and effective use of common branching strategies and how the ClearCase branching mechanism can support those strategies. The course also covers the use of the extended path names in ClearCase and how these can be used in various tools (development and reporting) and scripts to treat any ClearCase version as an ordinary file.Students are taught how to read config spec rules and write their own customized views to support compartmentalization of development and best practices in branching and merging during projects. Special issues involving maintaining snapshot views are also discussed.
